here is the deal. My drive is a 4 GB flash drive and I spent $60 on it and don't want to lose it. When I plug it in windows doesn't give me that autorun box. In my computer it shows up as removable disk F, but when i right click I can select format but it tells me i can't format it. When I go into compmgmt.msc it shows up but format is not an option. I have already recovered my important data so I just want to format the thing so i can use it. How do I do this? When I try to open it in my computer it tells me to insert a disk. Any help here? Any programs that are recommended.

Wow! are you sure it's still a viable drive? sounds like it's dead.

I have found one solution that might help. Boot with a 98 floppy and then running fdisk. delete the partition on the flash drive then create a new dos primary partition and format with fat. Ain't tried it yet but should work. Oh well just received my new 8 gig flash card. looks like a steel credit card. Yes was usb and was $60

I also forgot to mention my Mac and Linux will not pick it up which sereiously blows considering now much both of them kick ass. Ugh. I've given up. I'll screw with it when I have the time.

Willie the woof: is there any way I can get a new macbook at some good discount. I really can't get the cash but really want one. Credit card is not an option. Any special blindness org that will help me. Since I am still in school I'm not sure anything can be done. Don't ask about the school/bbvs because they are tight wads and bbvs will not buy me squat until I'm out of school.

Thanks ratt, as far as the free download's they will not work unless you pay to register them, so they are only free to see if there is something wrong with your computer and some of them will get deep into your computer making it hard to fully remove them, but thanks anyways.

as for rat, sorry if I'm sounding harsh, but please do your homework before posting. I might try as I said earlier with the 98

Troy! I really don't know of any organizations that provide funding for Macs. I'd say have a look on ebay but be carefull dealing with checks. I would insist they send you the item first since I had a problem sending the check. i would also take a look at www.smalldog.com they deal with new and used equipment and have great prices. it's worth a look.

Ok. I solved my flash drive issue. I had to use GParted in Linux. It showed right up just right clicked it and formatted with fat 32 simple as that even though an icon did not show up on my gnome desktop. Willie I will check that out.
